Our forever First Lady Michelle Obama pulled up to night two of the Democratic National Convention and the internet lost its collective mind.
The 60-year-old displayed her toned arms in a navy blue sleeveless crisscross suit from Monse‘s resort 2025 collection, according to Women’s Wear Daily. She stepped onto the stage wearing a pair of Jimmy Choo Scarlett pumps while Stevie Wonder’s Sir Duke played in the background. Her mid-back length microbraids were pulled back into a braided ponytail. Mrs. Obama’s polished, yet laid-back look quickly became a trending topic on X.
“Michelle Obama’s Monse reconstructed suit is perf! — Bearing her arms + a reimagining of a men’s suit. What a statement,” wrote fashion historian Shelby Ivy Christie.

Another X user eluded to the ways in which Black women’s hair has been demonized and politicalized in the United States.
Lemme just say this… Michelle Obama wearing braids during the DNC is a visual example of the evolution of hair in American politics.#DNC2024 pic.twitter.com/GxBdNnOrt6

The fashions weren’t the only thing that had the girlies talking. Queen Michelle ignited the crowd with a soul-stirring speech in support of Kamala Harris. Obama said she wanted to honor the memory of her mother, Marian Robinson who died in May. The former first lady admitted that her grief made it difficult for her to appear on stage.
“I wasn’t even sure if I’d be steady enough to stand before you tonight but my heart compelled me to be here because of the sense of duty that I feel to honor her memory. And to remind us all not to squander the sacrifices our elders made to give us a better future,” she said.
In her nearly 20-minute speech, the Harvard grad reflected on Kamala Harris’ education and career both in the criminal justice system and politics. The former first lady advocated for Harris calling her “one of the most qualified people ever to seek the office of the presidency.”
Forever Flotus rounded out her speech by eloquently dragging former president 45, by his good ear.
“For years, Donald Trump did everything in his power to try to make people fear us. See, his limited narrow view of the world made him feel threatened by the existence of 2 hard-working highly educated successful people who happened to be Black.”
She then referenced the controversial “Black jobs” statement that the former president made during his debate with President Joe Biden.
“who’s going to tell him that the job he is currently seeking might just be one of those Black jobs,” she quipped.
Her scathing yet classy read brought the crowd to its feet and sent social media into a frenzy.

Some social media users hilariously referenced Mrs. Obamas’s famous quote : “When they go low, we go high.”
