Houston prosecutors say a video of the woman who claimed she was hit in the face with a brick back in September of 2023 was all a farce. Roda Osman, the woman behind the viral video, was charged with felony theft by deception, according Click2Houston.

Meanwhile, Osman popped up in Jamaica to reclaim her life and her time. She shared a TikTok video explaining her renewed joy and travel to the Caribbean Island.

“This what I’m talking about when I say I’m taking my life back brick by brick.” Osman said. “Pun intended because four months ago when this incident happened, I was afraid to check my mailbox.”

Controversy and charges against Osman stem from claims the 33-year-old played in the public’s face and used people’s sympathy in an attempt to scam money through a now-canceled GoFundMe account. Police reports state Osman finessed folks out of $40,000. People were alarmed by Osman’s video in which she appears on camera, extremely upset with the right side of face visibly swollen. She shares that a man slapped her with a brick because she refused to give her number and goes on to admonish several Black men for not acting on her behalf.

“Yo, this man just hit me in my face with a brick and all these Black men just watched,” Osman said. “And they don’t give a fuck.”

Osman then has a back and forth exchange with the group of men about being “a man.”

The initial video was followed up with a video of Osman in a medical examining room wearing a hospital gown.

 “What have I done to anybody in my life to deserve this?” Osman cried, and reiterated that she had been struck with a brick as men stood around and watched. In a third video, the woman shares she is being discharged after 12 hours.

Osman’s charges come after an investigation around the incident authorities claim did not add up and an alleged incident in 2020 when Osman is said to have made a similar accusation. Houston cybercrime prosecutor Keith Houston stated: “They were able to find video of the defendant and another person who we believe was the accused assaulter. They got into a car, they both got out of the car, and the defendant slapped the male, who then responded by slapping her back. He did have a water bottle in his hand. And we think that’s what left the mark on her, on her face. But it was mutual combat,”

Social media responses were mixed with people who felt Black men deserve an apology and others who defended Osman and pointed out that she was still a victim.

“For all the black women who were trashing black men over this story, we forgive you. Now do better,” commented @dudesorandom

“Let me be the first to apologize to the men I cussed out while defending this lady,” @gymwaifu1 posted.

“They out of line …” @reelifexoxo responded. “Y’all please do not turn y’all backs on this girl or fall into the medias agenda,”

The Instagrammer continued: “She was hit maybe not by a brick but she was hit and we ALL saw the damage … THE REAL ISSUE IS someone doesn’t want her with that money.”

“So everyone just believes cops now? Y’all a little too excited.” @hellkathysteria commented.

@kamariasarai wrote, “I believe her.”
