Lynn Whitfield is set to become a mainstay in the upcoming season of The Chi. The critically acclaimed actress announced that she was promoted from guest star to series regular for Season 7.

Whitfield shared the exciting news on Instagram on August 13. Playing Latto’s “There She Go,” she posted a video of herself throwing ass auntily in a pink wide-brimmed hat and form-fitting dress.

“So excited to be back as a regular on @shothechi ❤️,” the actress wrote in the caption.

Fans congratulated the 71-year-old actress on the promotion.

“Ayyyyyyyyyyy!! And we will be watching,” one fan wrote.

“We, the people, are also excited 🔥❤️,” another person penned.

“I’m so happy for you, Ms. Lynn Whitfield, aka Lady Mae Greenleaf, aka Alicia,” another fan expressed.

Whitfield portrays Alicia– a formidable and powerful matriarch driven by a singular mission– to avenge her brother’s murder. In Season 6, her boss-ass character clashed with the show’s primary antagonist, Douda (played by fine-ass Curtiss Cook), in a tense rivalry that ultimately led to her only son’s (played by guest star Iman Shumpert) tragic death at the hands of Nuck’s gun.

As a series regular, Whitfield will surely bring even more depth and drama to The Chi, adding to the show’s already rich and compelling narrative. In the new season, fans can expect to go deeper into Alicia’s intense journey as she navigates avenging her son’s, ex-husband’s, and brother’s deaths while forging through the complexities of power, grief, and vengeance.

Whitfield joined the popular cable network series in May. She shared the news with her fans via Instagram.
