According to a TikTok post from @Miyahhhhhh, her 76-year-old great-grandmother is with child. The elderly woman was told she was pregnant while undergoing care at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. As granny was laid up in a hospital bed, with a heart rate monitor attached to her finger and wearing a hospital gown, a medical staff enters the room and announces the surprising news.
“We got the urine back and it does say you are pregnant,” the medical professional told grandma, who replied, “What?”
“It says you’re about 12 weeks.” Again, grandma replies, “What?”
“Were you not expecting it?” The medic asked.

Due to menopause, female reproduction begins to decline around age 40 or 50, which is why it’s startling for some to see older women pregnant. However, due to advancements in fertility treatment, geriatric pregnancy—or rather, advanced maternal age— is not as uncommon as in the days of yore. In 2023, a Ugandan woman birthed a set of fraternal twins at age 70 with the help of in vitro fertilization, BBC reported. Four years prior, an 73-year-old Indian woman conceived a set of twins girls with her 82-year-old husband through IVF as well.
Albeit possible, carrying a pregnancy full term and giving birth at a later age remains high risk. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, miscarriage and stillbirth are more common for women 35 and up. The risk of genetic problems like Down Syndrome is more prevalent in women who give birth at a later age. If granny is pregnant indeed, AUNTIE wishes her a safe delivery and a healthy child. Until then, our eyes are peeled for the gender reveal and baby shower.
