Kelly Rowland linked up with Pepsi’s Local Eats Better Initiative to give back to her favorite Houston hotspot, This Is It Soul Food.
Rowland surprised patrons at this Black-owned, local eatery Sept. 12, showcasing her love for its home-cooked meals and comfy atmosphere. Rowland’s pick is a fourth-generation, family-owned eatery, where she has fond memories from her childhood to now full-blown career.

“This Is It has so many memories in my heart that I share with my oldest son to this day,” said Rowland, 43 to People.
“The owner, Mr. Craig [Joseph], would come around asking anybody if they needed anything. It was the personal experience that you got. It was the fact that this Black business owner had this establishment that made people feel so loved, so seen and, of course, fed them beautifully.”
Moreover, Rowland remembers dining in with her famous loved one, including Beyonce, Tina Knowles and their fellow Destiny’s Child family.
“It was more so about fellowship than anything,” she added.
“We were coming from church, so we were talking about so many different things under the sun, but it was usually about what we heard at church and just silly things and being kids because we were kids at that time.”
Both This Is It Houston locations will feature the Kelly Rowland special, an exclusive $15 meal of peppered steak with rice and gravy, green beans, peach cobbler, and an ice-cold Pepsi.
While celebrating her hometown favorite, Rowland is also taking part in Pepsi’s search to give loyal customers their own spotlight. As part of the Local Eats Better program, one restaurant regular will become their own celebrity, taking part in a national Pepsi campaign alongside their beloved food spot.
Rowland has a lot already on her plate, from Pepsi campaigns to #1 movies on Netflix. As for what’s next, Rowland continues to be a powerhouse in entertainment and philanthropy.
