We are in the homestretch of season one of The Never Ever Mets and  it’s almost time for the couples to decide if they will stay together, or if they should have never ever met. Dr. Ally steps in to give the couples some much-needed counseling. Chris pulls out all the stops for Sandia, Uncle Aaron makes a big move, and Jody makes a difficult decision. Let’s get into it.

A Breakthrough

Jody and Nephew Aaron meet with Dr. Ally discusses the state of their situationship. The good doctor asked the couple if they think their relationship can work. Both of them say yes. Apparently Dr. Ally smelled the bullshit because she asked to talk to Jody by herself.  When they were alone, Jody admitted she is with Nephew Aaron because he accepts her  “difficult personality.” She goes on to say that not many men would deal with her.

“But do you accept him,” Dr. Ally asked.

Instead of giving a direct answer, Jody said that both she and Nephew Aaron agree that people shouldn’t marry for love.  She went on to say she watched her mother love a man to her own detriment. Jody doesn’t want to suffer the same fate as her mom. Dr. Ally told Jody that her “maneater” persona is a trauma response. When the doctor implied that Jody desires love but doesn’t think she deserves it, sis broke into tears. She said although she doesn’t want to hurt Nephew Aaron, she needs to focus on her healing.

Sandia,  You’re in Danger Girl

Sandia and Chris go for a horseback ride. Sandia is impressed that Chris remembered horseback riding was on her bucket list.

“Chris isn’t good at communicating, but he definitely is good at listening,” she said

While this is a sweet and romantic gesture, the audience is raising a collective eyebrow, because Chris admitted that uses these tactics to reel women before ghosting them and then reemerging a few weeks later. He has also been emotionally abusive to Sandia and his misogyny is well-documented.
He later tells Sandia that if they stay together, he doesn’t want her to work. Sandia who just graduated from nursing school said she can have a “little business on the side” and allow Chris to take care of her. While the idea of being a kept wife sounds good in theory, Sandia should probably consider putting that nursing degree to good use if she’s going to be with Chris—just in case.

 Millie and Gregg

Millie and Gregg go on a date to celebrate his birthday. The pair seemed to have gotten past their issues and they appear to be in a good place. Thirty-two year old Mille tells Gregg that time isn’t on her side, so she wants to be married and pushing out these babies sooner than later. While the biological clock is a real thing, it should never be a reason to rush down the aisle. Furthermore, technological advances have slowed that clock down significantly. Relax, sis.

A Cringey Surprise

Millie and Gregg come home to a surprise birthday party. The music is pumping, the drinks are flowing and it’s not long before they get into some alcohol-infused antics. Some of the men give lap dances to their partners. Nephew Aaron takes off his shirt and gives Jody good his best 1990’s Ginuwine dance moves and she is visibly uncomfortable.

Sis said that a man’s dance moves can provide a preview of his bedroom skills and she wasn’t impressed. Ouch. Next, someone dares Nephew Aaron to
strip naked and run through the house, although the brother looks like he’s no stranger to the gym, Naked Nephew Aaaron gave Jody the ick. Poor thing.

Chris has a dare for the ladies. He challenges Jody to kiss his girlfriend, Sandia. Jody seemed enthusiastic to participate in some girl-on-girl action for Chris’ gaze. Sandia, not so much. She is annoyed with her man for asking her to do something he knows she’s not comfortable with. The ladies lock lips and the kiss lasts longer than just a few seconds. Sandia says this is the first and last time she will do that. But judging from Chris’ past behaviors, this won’t be the last time he will ask her to kiss a girl for his enjoyment.

Despite all of the weirdness, everyone seems to enjoy the party—except for Uncle Aaron and Dymond. The couple disappeared a few moments after the party started; others didn’t seem to notice. In Episode 8, their castmates confront them about their excessive meddling and Shay reads Dymond for filth, which included some unnecessary age-shaming. The couple seems to have isolated themselves from the rest of the group ever since.

A Visit From Sis

Shay’s sister, Ashlee comes for a visit and we learn Shay never told her family about Josh. What in the shenanigans after twelve-damn-years of dating? Shay and Josh are such an unserious, serious couple. Ashlee is rightfully skeptical when Shay tells her that she and Josh got matching tattoos and they  plan to move to Texas together. When Ashlee meets Josh, she drills him with questions and ultimately gives him the stamp of approval—but she still has her eye on him.

Will You?

Uncle Aaron takes Dymond out for a romantic outdoor dinner. The table is adorned with white tulips, her favorite flower. As she is taking in the beautiful spread, Aaron gets down on one knee.

“Dymond, will you  marry me?”

Will she say yes? Will there be more shenanigans? We will have to wait until next week to find out.

The shenanigans continue on the season finale of The Never Ever Mets which airs Friday, June 21 at 8 pm EST on OWN and MAX.
