Welp, it’s a wrap for Kandi Burruss on the Real Housewives of Atlanta. After starring on the popular reality TV show for 14 seasons, the former Xscape singer is stepping away after thoughtful consideration. She reached the decision after an acquaintance questioned her commitment to the show. Burruss announced the news while on a red carpet run at the Grammys Feb. 4.

“A friend of mine was like, ‘Why do you keep doing it?’” Burruss told Variety

“And I was like, ‘Well, I think because I’ve just been doing it for so long, it feels weird to think not to do it?’ So I was just like, ‘You know what? I’m going to take a break, I’m going to take a moment… I’m not coming back this year.’”

Just a few weeks ago, Burruss spoke on the uncertainty and delay around knowing whether she and other housewives would be recast for the upcoming 16th season of RHOA. At that time, she had not yet received contracts, Dexerto reported.

They still haven’t told everybody who they’re bringing back.” Burrus said.

“Yeah, they’re over here, they’re being real, uhhh — [they’re] trippin.’ People got lives around here. We gotta make plans for other things.”

Being held on ice and having to work around Bravo’s timeline could have its drawbacks for a hustler like Burruss, who is known for busting moves and securing bags. Beyond the RHOA, Burruss is a successful entrepreneur in her own right with several thriving businesses in and around her hometown of Atlanta. As a restaurateur, Burruss has multiple Old Lady Gang locations and Blaze Steakhouse. She has Bedroom Kandi, a line of adult toys and pleasantries. The reality TV star has even garnered a “real deal” with KFC to endorse chicken nuggets. Burruss is also on deck for the Broadway revival of The Wiz. Auntie Kandi has plenty going on.

“I’m not really keeping up right now,” Burruss said, when asked about RHOA.

“I’m not keeping up. I already said it, so I’ll tell you. I decided I’m not coming back this year. It’s been 14 seasons, and they allowed us to sit around for a little too long, but during that time I had started working on a lot of other things, and I got some nice big projects coming soon, so I’m super excited about those things.”
