Tyra Banks–supermodel, mother and America’s top Auntie walked the Victoria Secret runway nearly 20 years after her retirement. The show alum returned to the catwalk Oct. 15, at the intimate apparel brand’s flagship store in New York City.
With hair flowing tresses, the timeless beauty strutted out in a silver sequined bustier, leggings and cape. She gave body, face and model supremacy, reminding the masses just who TF Tyra Banks is

Banks is arguably one of the most famous Victoria Secret Angels ever. The model-turned- talks show host, on her own Tyra Banks Show, has walked as a VS Angel a total of nine times. The 50-year-old icon spoke with Harper’s Bazar Sept. 2024, to discuss what it felt like coming out of retirement.
“I never in a million years thought that I would be back on the runway, but I am so beyond excited and so ready for this.”
Social media rejoiced seeing Auntie Tyra get her groove back. Her walk was flawless, no slips, trips or falls. Banks says she strapped on her heels, in preparation for her walk and wore them religiously.
“I have been walking around in heels,” the top model said.
“Like, I get in the car and take my son to school and drop him off at the carpool, and what the teachers don’t know is that I have heels on underneath. I’m just like, this is [going to be] live on the runway! This is not like a tape where if Tyra trips, they can just edit it. So I’m making sure that I’m on point, on my game. I got a herniated disk but ain’t nobody gonna know.”
As the first Black woman to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit edition, Banks has broken barriers in the modeling world. Her work, as well as a handful of other Black high-fashion models, opened the doors for a new generation of Black women.
Banks spoke on her impact: “I feel like I cracked it open, and now that they’re burst open, I’m so excited.”
The Victoria Secret Fashion show is evidence of how said doors have burst open. The show has grown in its diversity including curvier figured models like Ashley Graham and more than one Black woman participant.

The show also showed love to colored women selecting pop singer Tyla to perform. This marks the first time an African artist has performed at the show.
