Janet Jackson was featured in The Gaurdian and lost “Control” of her mouth in the recent interview. The Rhythm Nation singer spoke on Vice President Kamala Harris’s racial identity.
When asked about her thoughts on the presidential candidate, Jackson stated, “You know what they supposedly said? Kamala Harris is not Black. That’s what I heard. That she’s Indian.”
Fans and haters alike are displeased, as the singer added to the abundance of misinformation surrounding VP Harris’ race.
The uninformed pop icon doubled down on her statement. “Her father’s white. That’s what I was told. I mean, I haven’t watched the news in a few days,” Jackson stated.
The millionaire musician did not stick to the rivers and lakes that she’s used to, instead she commented on a Harris’s lineage when it was very unbeknownst to her.
Needless to say, celebrities and social media users came for our beloved auntie’s neck. D.L. Hughley is one of the more notable voices to criticize Jackson’s statement.
Hughley posted in a thread on X and Instagram. The comedian took shots at the physical evolution of Damita Joe’s features.
“All I know is Kamala looks like she did when she was in Oakland! But Janet don’t look like she did when she was Penny!”
Hughley referenced the younger Jackson’s stint as an orphaned youth on the show 1970s cult classic Good Times. At 11-years-old, Jackson joined the cast of the show adding a youthful character with a precocious attitude.
Over the years, Ms. Jackson’s features have dramatically changed. Gone is the wider nose that was prevalent amongst her famous brothers who made up The Jackson 5. Her features have taken a sharp turn towards Euro-centric, the change has prompted surgery accusations during her decades-long career.
D.L. notes the difference, “It’s ironic to question who’s Black while you’re breathing through the nose of a white woman.”

The radio host’s approach may be crass and even unwarranted but shots were fired and points were made.
Various images, statements and declarations by Harris herself, has debunked the falsehood around her Blackness that was spread by right-wing media. Not only did Harris attend Howard University, a popular HBCU, 40 years before she began her career in politics – her father’s ethnicity is printed on her birth certificate.
Perhaps, Ms. Jackson should take the time to investigate and brush up on current events. Running with tea handed to you by others is a dangerous game and assumptions that are loud and wrong will even make an ass out of the dopest auntie in the game.
