Jan. 16 marks the 46th birthday of iconic songbird Aaliyah. It is fitting that Babygirl has now been immortalized as a Barbie doll on this day. Mattel, the maker of Barbie dolls, crafted the doll in Aaliyah’s likeness to celebrate her birthday but to also pay “homage to the legendary American R&B singer, actress, and model,” according to the company’s website.
On Mattel’s site, the Aaliyah doll retails for $55 but, according to The Detroit News, sold out within 30 minutes, but don’t get your hopes down just yet. The doll is available online at Target.com and in stores at participating Target stores and if all else fails, folks can purchase the doll on EBay for an inflated cost of $150 for the coveted Aaliyah memorabilia.
Comedienne Loni Love shared the doll on her Instagram page.

The signature doll recreates Aaliyah’s signature hairdo, the swooped bangs falling over her eye and the edgy, biker-chic style the starlet was known for. The doll rocks all-black-everything down, even replicating the leather look with a sleeveless vest, studded crop top and pants, that Aaliyah wore in the music video for “One in a Million.”
Aaliyah died 24 years ago on Aug. 25, 2001 at age 22, in an airplane accident. The plane crashed killing the singer along with eight other passengers due overloaded cargo. Her death devastated close friends and family as well fans globally. The “At Your Best” singer has left behind a discography that stands the test of time with hits like, “Four-Page Letter,” “We Need A Resolution,” “Rock The Boat” and more. That said, if you can’t land an Aaliyah Barbie doll you can definitely cop a physical album or stream her songs because her essence is live and well through her music.
