Yvette Nicole Brown recently made a decision to hand over the care of her elderly father to a nursing facility to aid with his treatment for Alzheimers disease. Brown, who actively speaks on the state of American healthcare and the toll and joys of caregiving, recently spoke about the tough decision to relinquish her role as father’s caregiver and working to ensure her father’s best interest are always a priority.
“I have always put his needs above my own and I’m still putting his needs above my own because I want him with me. I need him with me,” Brown told PEOPLE.
The Community actress and comedienne began her caregiver journey 12 years ago. It is not uncommon for the Walking Dead pundit to give fans a peak into her life, she is very active on X.

Brown is not alone in her role as breadwinner and caregiver for an elder parent. As Millennials continues to age and medical bills pile up, many wonder what resources they will have to take care of ailing elders. Not all have resources to cover to the exorbitant cost of nursing homes.
The 2024 Presidential election is bringing issues of healthcare to the forefront. Medicare, health insurance supplement that helps elders, is reportedly running out of funding and will reach insolvency in 2036, pushed back from the original project of 2031.
Medicare’s original “go-broke date” was extended five additional years due to higher payroll tax income in 2023, Associated Press reported.
The Biden-Harris administration released a plan to help ease the financial burden. The administration is the first in history to successfully negotiate with big pharma cutting costs of medicine to, hopefully, keep Americans healthier longer.
Medicare has reached agreements with manufacturers of all 10 drugs selected for drug price negotiation.
That means the prices of these ten drugs will be cut 40% to 80%.
